The brief
Our clients wanted their long-time family home to be transformed into a high-end and low-impact place where they could continue to make memories with family and friends.
They also wanted a lifestyle with maximum quality and comfort but minimal impact and maintenance, as well as the ability to host more guests with additional bedrooms and a large open-plan kitchen-diner.
Internally, along with the extra bedrooms, they wanted a bespoke and flawless finish. Externally, they wanted a fully landscaped garden with an outdoor kitchen, seating areas, a swimming pool and hot tub and a resin driveway.
The solution
Collaborating with our architect, we would build a ground floor extension and alter the internal layout to create extra space for the large open-plan kitchen-diner. An additional extension would also be built above the existing kitchen footprint for two additional double guest bedrooms.
To deliver the luxury feel and quality finish internally, a Neptune kitchen would be installed, including a walk-in pantry, Porcelanosa bathrooms, a hand-finished oak staircase and ambient lighting throughout. Externally, a landscape design would be developed to include a 10.5m swimming pool and hot tub, a large outdoor kitchen with a patio dining area as well as a separate pergola seating area with a fire pit. Finally, to really enhance kerb appeal, a resin-bound driveway would be laid.
To enable a high-comfort and low-impact lifestyle, we would install triple-glazed windows to reduce heat loss and underfloor heating to complement the new air-source heat pump. This would be also set up to work in reverse for cooling in the increasingly warmer climate, ensuring year-round comfort. Then, to power the electric heating and cooling, we chose to integrate in-roof solar panels, with two EV chargers utilising any excess power. A 10,000L rainwater harvesting tank would also be installed underground for smart irrigation of the newly landscaped garden.
The result
With the high electrical demands, there were some supply challenges; however, these were overcome by working closely with National Grid and the project electrician.
The end result incorporates sustainability, technology and luxury. Featuring an air-source heat pump (Heating & Cooling), in-roof solar, triple-glazed windows, rainwater harvesting with smart irrigation and EV Chargers.
